With the audio guide, we learned about the history of its construction and the stories behind it. The tall stone columns were neatly arranged, and the lights reflected on the water, creating an absolutely captivating atmosphere. The Medusa column is a classic highlight here, both mysterious and unique. Walking through the damp corridors, a profound sense of ancient history enveloped us. Although the price difference with a guided tour isn't significant, I recommend doing some research beforehand, perhaps by looking at social media posts or reviews, to get a general understanding of the sites. You definitely don't want to wait in those long lines! Even with a QR code sent in advance, you'll still encounter a short wait at the baggage check before passing through a unique gate to finally enter. Once inside, be prepared for crowds of tourists. If you're willing to lose some time and prefer to buy a standard ticket on-site, I suggest finding the ticket counter an hour before opening and lining up at least 30 minutes prior. This way, you might be able to explore at least one area smoothly and at your own pace. For other attractions, by the time you purchase standard tickets on-site, you'll likely face substantial queues. So, are you prepared for that? Purchasing your tickets in advance, whether with or without a guide, will make for a much more worthwhile visit! I'm glad I bought mine.

It's neither a mosque nor a palace, but rather a water purification plant that once managed the city's water supply. The entrance is a bit hard to find; we struggled to locate the small entrance across the street. This must-visit tourist attraction is often crowded, with everyone taking photos, making it difficult to navigate the narrow passages. Since you follow a set route, the visit automatically concludes in about 30 minutes. It's definitely a great spot for photos.

Descending into the Basilica Cistern was truly breathtaking; I never imagined such a massive underground reservoir, built 1,500 years ago, could be so well-preserved to this day. After the guide finished explaining, we were free to explore at our leisure, with no time limit, allowing us to meticulously admire every column, every corridor, every detail. This experience was fantastic, and I highly recommend it; everyone visiting Istanbul should come and see this.

location to meet the guide was easy to find. the explanation from the guide was about 15min at the start of the tour. thereafter we were on our own and there was no time limitation inside the cistern. we were appreciative of the guide’s honesty on the history of the cistern. the place has been commercialized with lightings and art display but it was nicely done.

Basilica Cistern line for buying entrance is always busy in any day and buying a skip-the-line access is the way to save time. This will give you more time to explore other attractions in the area, every penny spent is worth it. This cistern is awesome and a must-see during your Istanbul visit, we were surprised how big it is! Truly one of the best places to see in our lifetime, highly recommended!
