Review Giethoorn Day Tour from Amsterdam with Traditional Boat Cruise

 (1.1k)

Visit the tiny village of Giethoorn, aptly named “the Little Venice of the Netherlands” on this picturesque full day tour. Famous for its incredibly tranquil atmosphere, the village, located on the border with Germany, offers the ultimate getaway from the noise of the city. Here you will find no roads and no cars — just picturesque antique farmhouses, parks and beautiful canals. Roam the the fantastical setting of the countryside and find yourself at the Enclosing Dike, a 32km long dike connecting North Holland and Friesland. Capture the moment and enjoy the serene ambiance unlike any other. The primary method of moving around the village is by taking a boat: hop on one and two are the canals of Giethoorn for a full tour of the village. Have some free time to explore: hunt for souvenirs, take plenty of photos and dine at one of the many village restaurant with stunning views of the canal.

We joined the Zaanse Schans and Giethoorn day tour, which was more time-saving and convenient compared to traveling independently. The private car picked us up and dropped us off at the hotel, saving us the time of transferring by train and bus, allowing us to visit two classic attractions on the same day, which is equivalent to freeing up an extra day to go to other places. Of course, if you choose to take the train, you will have a unique experience, but the efficiency of the tour group is higher.
Our tour guide, Suri, explained the characteristics of the two attractions in detail and shared a lot about the history, culture, and customs of the Netherlands. The explanation was clear and vivid, and we gained a lot.
In Zaanse Schans, we visited the cheese factory and the clog factory, and it was free of charge throughout. We were able to watch the production process and taste the authentic flavors.
In Giethoorn, we took a canal boat. The weather was excellent that day, and the scenery of the lake and mountains reflected the idyllic scenery along the way, which was very charming. Our tour guide Suri drove the boat himself, and we also had the opportunity to try driving ourselves, which was a very unforgettable experience.
Whether it is the traditional windmills and crafts, or the beautiful scenery of the water town, these two places show the characteristics of the Netherlands. If you plan to travel to Amsterdam, this route is a must-go option, highly recommended!

This is Tours & Tickets' day trip itinerary, to Amsterdam Central Station Tours & Tickets after collecting tickets to the 1st floor B platform assembly to take a double-decker bus, the guide on the bus will sometimes introduce the surrounding special attractions will history, but usually very surprising, if sleeping may be suddenly scared 😂. The trip will first stop at Afsluitdijk for 15 minutes to see the dam separating the sea from the lake, the day happened to encounter the bridge open to let the boats through so there was a wait. After arriving at the village, the tour guide has carefully explained the history and culture of the village. After the cruise, there will be about two and a half hours of free time. The architecture of Giethoorn has its own characteristics, so it's quite relaxing to stroll around.

Our guide, Suri, was fantastic on this trip. The entire itinerary was perfectly arranged. She took us to Giethoorn early in the morning, so we didn't encounter boat traffic and were able to take many beautiful photos. In the afternoon, we went to the windmill area and could leisurely explore the whole region. The timing throughout the trip was just right, and the explanations of the attractions were very detailed. I found her to be extremely professional and highly recommend her 👍

Tickets and tour vouchers were easily obtained. The station staff directed us to Platform B to wait for the tour guide to lead us onto the bus. Sitting upstairs on the double-decker bus provided a better view for the journey. The first stop was Afsluitdijk for a brief 30-minute stay, to learn about the Dutch dam engineering technology that balances the separation of sea and land. The second stop was Giethoorn, first with a traditional 1-hour boat ride, followed by a very generous 2.5 hours of free time to stroll along the small bridges and waterways. Overall, a very satisfying experience, recommended for travelers who don't want to go on their own but want to spend more time in Giethoorn.

Booked an English group tour at 10:00, need to go to TOURS&TICKETS to find staff to exchange itinerary tickets, and then go to the first floor of the passenger station B to meet the tour guide. The bus is a double-decker bus, there is a USB port next to the chair for charging (bring your own line), the journey to Giethoorn takes about two hours, and the return journey takes one and a half hours. In the middle, you will stop at AFSLUITDIJK WADDEN CENTRE to rest before continuing. The boat ride in Giethoorn is very good, you can see the distinctive houses in the village 🏠, there are also souvenir shops and gourmet restaurants for people to visit.

I recently went on a day tour to Giethoorn, and it was one of the highlights of my trip! Often referred to as the "Venice of the North," Giethoorn is a charming village with canals instead of roads, and it's just as beautiful in person as it looks in photos.

The tour was well-organized, with comfortable transportation and a friendly guide who shared interesting facts about the area. The boat ride through the canals was incredibly peaceful, offering a unique view of the village and its beautiful thatched-roof houses.

We also had some free time to walk around, take photos, and enjoy a meal or snack at one of the cozy local cafes. It's a relaxing escape from the busy city and perfect for anyone who loves nature, photography, or just wants a slower pace for the day.

Highly recommend this day trip if you're looking to experience the Dutch countryside in a truly memorable way!

Giethoorn is like a fairytale, with its small bridges and canals. It's about a two-hour drive from Amsterdam, and there's no direct public transportation, so a day tour offers good value. Our group had 70 people, and the tour guide provided explanations in both English and Spanish, which was quite good.

First, we'll exchange our tickets at the ticket service center, then head to the platform to wait for the tour bus. Our enthusiastic guide will explain the history of Giethoorn throughout the journey! The scenery is so beautiful, it feels like stepping into a painting! 😍

The weather was great that day, and the environment was very comfortable. However, on the way back, the car broke down! We had to wait over an hour for a replacement vehicle to arrive. The driver offered us popsicles as an apology.
